Question Hoping this isn't breaking the EULA....

Hi there, and apologies in advance for the length ^^;;
A workmate has finally grown sick of me blathering on about GW every second of the day, and has decided to give it a try for himself.

I have a spare mule/storage account that's hardly used these days, but rather than give it to him, I just want to let him use it for a weekend, to see if he likes it.

Firstly, I want to make sure this isn't somehow breaking the EULA? Transferral of accounts and all that. Again, I don't want to give him the account, just allow him to use it for a weekend.

If this is a-okay by Anet, then my next question is this: is there a way - other than telling him to mark himself offline - to somehow remove the account from people's friends lists? It's just that there are a lot of people on the list who would probably start messaging him, thinking it's me - some of them don't speak English too well, and it'd be hard to get the message across that it's not me. Trivial I know, but it's a hassle I'd like to avoid. If I changed the email address linked to the account, would it then be classed as a new account in terms of appearing on friends lists? I suspect not, but if anyone could confirm that would be great.

If this little scheme somehow isn't fine by the EULA, or there's no way to remove the account from other people's friends list, then is it possible to get a free trial? I couldn't see anything on Guildwars.com or Google. Were there ever free trials given away with purchases of the game? I recall the 'invite a friend' thing during betas, was that only for betas?

I own a regular copy and a Collector's Edition copy of each chapter. Does anyone know if they came with any sort of free trial?

Sorry if this sounds really dodgy, it's not really, honest! And yes I'm aware of the implications; he could spend the weekend fraternising with bots, or selling stuff on eBay, or giving my ecto and black dye stash away to leave me with nothing except a permaban... but he won't.

Thanks!

I'd say it'd be perfectly OK, but then, the law is a strange and illogical world.

Transfering accounts IS against the EULA I think...but people do it all the time :\ letting friends on their acconuts and such.

As for Free 14 day (or 10 hour) trails, I have a few of these keys laying around from various purchases of chapters, I'll PM one to you if you don't want to "risk" giving him the account.

Technically it isnt a transferral of ownership, you still own it... just letting him log in with your credentials.
afaik, there is no way to take yourself off of other's friends lists.

Checked the Terms of Service Myself.

It is indeed against the EULA to let anyone use your account, one expection being a parent making an account for his minor (under 18) child.

I Pm'ed you the trail key.

It happens all the time, although it's not allowed. But there isn't really anything to worry about cause some of my friends did it and nothing happened.

I think it would be the same as letting one of your friends play on your Xbox for a few hours. No big deal.

Seeing as they've bothered to include it in the EULA, I'd say yes, they do care to some extent.

But yeah, in reality I doubt they'd bat an eyelid, and unless they're watching me through my monitor...

*puts pants on just in case*

...they're not going to know whether it's me or my workmate logged in. I was just curious. And now I have a trial key, which IMO is the best solution all-round

(p.s. Are you THE Thomas Bangalter? Bonjour! )

I don't understand why it matters...As long as we payed our money, why should they care if we let our friends use it? My friend has prophecies, but he wanted to try out factions, so I was going to let him use my account (I knew him in real life), then he logged out and never logged back in...Oh well. I'm too lazy to call him and see what happened.

I think it's probably against EULA because some people try to sell accounts and to prevent that, they say that transferring accounts is not allowed. I'm gonna re-read the EULA to see exactly what it says.

I dont suggest it...... a guild mate let his cousin use his acount and it got banned (perma) from GW.

Better option would be to get this co-worker a trial code key. Most people got a code key trial in their factions case.

The only disadvantage of this of course is that the trial is only for Prophesies
